“I was shaped by the values and traditions of my ancestral roots”.
On October 15, 1962 at his trial for leaving the country without a passport, Madiba made a dramatic entrance in the court room wearing his traditional Xhosa regalia - something that was looked down upon and disapproved by the apartheid regime. In his own words this created an electrifying atmosphere and silence inside the courtroom. Madiba said: “this was a sign of contempt for the niceties of white justice. I knew the authorities would feel threatened by my kaross as so many whites feel threatened by the true culture of Africa.”
Through this collection, we celebrate not only the enduring and defiant spirit of Madiba, we celebrate our ancestral roots and the culture and beauty of our people, the Thembus.

Metal Alchemist x House of Mandela
Nelson Mandela's global impact goes beyond the life of one man. He is a man that became a symbol. We hold deep respect for the narrative and cultural treasures of Mandela and his family, and it is with great privilege that we tell his remarkable story to generations to come through jewelry as art.
The literal translation of Mandela’s name, the African honeybee represents community, hard work, and harmony. These qualities resonate with Mandela's life and values. Mandela was seen as a unifier, and “Purveyor of Creativity” working tirelessly to bring people together, much like the honeybee works collectively in their hive for the greater good.
From the creative mind of Nelson Mandela comes a jewelry line that encapsulates an exclusive collection of art and poetry by one of the world's greatest leaders. Inspired by Mandela’s creations , each piece is a testament to Mandela’s legacy. "These sketches are not so much about my life as they are about my own country. I hope that it will give you as much pleasure as I have had, in creating these images."
Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on Earth. Once you have been there, you will never be the same. But how do you begin to describe its magic to someone who has never felt it?

"We want our father to be remembered as the father, the grandfather, the brother, the uncle, the friend that he was. Yes, he was a political figure, but he had an ability to unite people, and in our fractured world, we must remember this quality."
